This beautifully primitive death head is cast from the gravestone of Ephraim Allen, "son of Jacob and Lucey Allen, who died June the 14th, 1703, Aged 4 months". In the early 1700s it was commonly believed people must live an earthly life long enough to earn the right to Heaven. This little boy must have achieved that, as his soul was given wings to fly to the next world. His earthly remains are buried in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
